The role of coupling agent in wood plastic materials
The main function is to improve the wood-plastic interface bonding, increase the strength, reduce water absorption, maintain mechanical properties, promote the dispersion of wood powder in the resin, and improve the flatness and fineness of the wood-plastic surface.
Since the main component of wood flour is cellulose, cellulose contains a large number of hydroxyl groups. These hydroxyl groups form intermolecular hydrogen bonds or intramolecular hydrogen bonds, which make wood flour water-absorbent. The moisture absorption rate can reach 8% to 12%. Very strong; and most thermoplastics are non-polar and hydrophobic, so the compatibility between the two is poor, and the adhesion of the interface is very small. When cellulose encounters the same strong maleic anhydride group, the encounter of the polar group and the polar group can increase the interface affinity between the wood flour and the resin, thereby achieving the effect of enhancing the strength of the composite material. . The wood-plastic compatibilizer contains acid anhydride groups, which can undergo an esterification reaction with the hydroxyl groups in the wood flour, thereby reducing the polarity and hygroscopicity of the wood flour and making it compatible with the resin. Therefore, in order to obtain a plastic-wood composite material with excellent performance and meeting conditions, the first thing to be solved is the problem of material compatibility.
