Lauric arginate, also known as LAE (Ethyl lauroyl arginate HCl) is a compound synthetised from L-arginine, lauric acid and ethanol. Due to its cationic and surfactant nature, it is an effective preservative against Gram positive and Gram negative bacteria, such as: Listeria monocytogenes, Leuconostoc mesenteroides, Staphylococcus aureus, Salmonella spp., Escherichia coli, Campylobacter jejuni, Bacillus cereus and Clostridium botulinum. It also shows activity against moulds and yeasts.
